A Gathering of Baby Elephants!
Inasmuch as I started yesterday writing about the largest of the Elephants in the collection, I figured I might as well feature the smallest also. (smile) This group of babies who will someday join the ranks of our largest land roving creatures, actually were a Christmas present I received about three years ago.
The seven of them are supposed to represent my great nieces and nephews, Aaron, Cameron, and Nassari. Then there’s Emoree, Ari’yah, Kaleena, Justin Jr. and Mason. Yeah….I just named eight of them but seven were all that came in the set so you can decide who represents who at your discretion!! (ha,ha,ha)
I thought this was really cool when I opened it, and it was explained to me who these little behemoths represented. They stand just 2 ¼ inches tall to the tip of their raised trunks, and I really like the varying colors of their ears. Believe it or not, there is actually one more Elephant that I have that is even tinier in stature than these wee beasts.
He is one that is part of a small group of pieces that were a gift from my friend Tanuja. That tiny Elephant is joined by a Lion, a Rhino, and a Tree. Each is only ¾ of an inch tall, and are featured in a display I decided to title “Under African Skies”.
Now….I know the more popular reference to Pink Elephant’s is that one is reputed to see them when one has participated in a significant amount of alcoholic consumption!! (smile) I however, can quite honestly declare that my procurement of this “rose hued Mammoth” occurred while I was completely sober. It is rather unique, because it represents one of the very few times that I actually purchased an item as a spontaneous act!!
I was in a Hobby Lobby store, and they were featuring glass sculptures on sale for 50% off!! There was a Grey Elephant on the shelf, but heck, something about the Pink one struck me immediately, and I think I just went for it because of its color to tell the truth!! (ha,ha,ha)
The Green tinted Elephant is one of my favorites because of its ears!! (smile) I love the curved treatment the artist gave this animal, and I remember that I found this guy in an African Themed gift shop in the Del Amo Mall in Torrance, CA. I picked up this piece along with a Rhino (also tinted Green) and you’ll see him later on.
There are still a number of Elephants I have to tell you about, so they obviously will be the subject(s) of future installments!! Right now, I’m going to end here because I’ve successfully knocked out another 1,000 word piece.
It’s interesting now, I’m finding that when I decide to write, I want to try to do at least 1,000 words. That will most likely not become a standard, but I’ll feel like I’ve written a nice piece if it’s around that long. Hope you like reading them!!
