 “The Antigua Adventure!!”

Skip & Jodi Antigua Postcard

Hi Jodie….it feels kinda strange to be writing this particular installment because it’s one that you know the details of very well!! (smile)  It seems only a very short time ago you and I were hanging out on that little deck at the St. James Club in Antigua watching the sailboats racing by.  I know I’ll remember that vacation with you forever!!

I’m so glad that this piece, now will serve as the memento of that trip.  I’m also glad that I listened to you, and hit the “buy it button” right there while on the island. (smile)  My “Antigua Adventure” Sailboat is now the 3rd largest of my fleet of ten, and I love the unusual construction of it.

The multi-layered pieces that comprise its hull make it the only sailboat in my fleet that is constructed that way.  It presents a very unique visual when you first see it.  Looking at it from a directly horizontal point of view, it appears that the hull is completely transparent in appearance.  BUT….when you look at it from above, you see that the coloring of the deck is Black & Clear as you see here in the photos!!  I am also intrigued by the fact that this piece came from Israel!!  So now I have my own little “worldly fleet” with ships from the U.S., Italy, and Israel!! (smile)

I actually photographed it without the sails because it looks like a very sleek Yacht, as shown in one of the photos.  As a matter of fact, it reminds me very much of that awesome Black & Silver Yacht we saw in English Harbour while we were there.  I now believe that I saw that yacht on YouTube.  It’s called the “Maltese Falcon” and it’s amazing!!

At first I was going to have this installment actually revisit the many little glitches that we endured just in trying to make it to Antigua. (smile)  Not certain that we want to go over that again for the “Chronicles”.  However….I may very well create a different, more detailed accounting of our trip for you a bit later on.  We’ll see….

There will always be a special feeling that comes to me as I look at this piece from now on.  I think sailboats are works of art.  I remember watching America’s Bicentennial Celebration in 1976, when “Tall Ships” from all over the globe gathered in New York City, and sailed up the Hudson River.  I’m pretty certain that it was then that I decided that I’d become a fan of them. (smile)

I never would’ve on my own truly entertained the idea of being able to see “Sailing Week” in person the way we did!!  I’ll tell you JoJo, watching those races from our Catamaran, only 100 feet or so from the competitors themselves was one of the highlights of my life!! (ha,ha,ha,ha)  I’m so-o-o-o glad that your suggestion that we see “Sailing Week” together actually came to fruition!!  I’m also happy that after so many years, I was actually with you on your birthday. (ha,ha,ha,ha)  All in all, the “Antigua Adventure” sailboat will forever remind me of that great trip!!
